Gifted and Talented

At Chad Vale we understand the need to stretch and develop every child so that they can achieve their full potential. Every class at Chad Vale has children with wide ranging abilities. Teachers meet their needs everyday by differentiating lessons and tasks so that they can be accessed by all, but for the children who are working at a level way above the expected, this can sometimes be difficult.

To meet the demands of the Gifted and Talented children at Chad Vale we have a number of solutions;

Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator

Miss. Crombie is our Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator. To contact her please email the school. Miss Crombie has identified pupils in every class who are 'Gifted and Talented' across the whole range of subjects. She ensures that the teachers plan to meet their needs and oversees their ongoing assessment.

Day a Week School

The 'Day a Week' School is specifically designed for our KS2 children with excellent attainment and high level thinking skills. They spend one day a week learning with other Gifted and Talented pupils at St. George's School in Ladywood, with a specialist teacher and full use of the ICT suite during the day. The expectation is that pupils involved in this project will catch up on the day they have 'missed' at Chad Vale in their own time, and pupils and parents report that this is a very popular facility for those pupils who enjoy learning challenges.

Athena Advanced Learning Centre

This after-school provision based at Harborne Hill school targets our 'high-flying' Y5/6 pupils in Numeracy/Literacy and is a cluster based initiative attracting pupils from the local area. Currently taught by our own Mr. Cham, the children's learning is enhanced and challenged.
